PAS 9716/AO : 16 Channel 16 Bit VME Analog Output Card

Links to printable product info:

Precision Analog System's 9716/AO card provides sixteen analog output channels with 16 bit resolution on a 6U VME format.  Each channel has a +/- 10 Volt output range with 5 mAmps of output current.  Settling time is typically 6 uSec for a zero to full scale change of the output voltage.
By using 16 bit Digital to Analog Converters (DACs), this card provides sixteen times the resolution of cards designed with 12 bit DACs. Requirements of having several jumper selectable output ranges are eliminated with this design approach, since the 16 bit card has higher output resolution with the +/- 10 Volt range than a 12 bit card has with a +/- 2.5 Volt output range.

Each DAC contains a Channel Data Register and a DAC Register.  This allows all Channel Data Registers to be loaded, and then all the DACs to be updated simultaneously. Normally the output of a DAC will be updated when the appropriate Channel Data Register is written unless the simultaneous update feature is enabled.  All channels have gain and offset adjustments that are set at the factory to +/- 1 LSB. The remaining error source is the linearity error of the DACs, which is +/- 1 LSB over temperature.

The PAS 9716/AO card's address is jumper selectable and uses a 256 byte block of memory that can be mapped anywhere in the full 32 bits of VME space.  The card can be configured to be a A32, A24 or A16 compatible with pluggable jumpers.  Individual output channels can be written with 16 bit writes to a Channel's Data Register, or two sequential channels can be written simultaneously with a single 32 bit write.  The output data is 2's complement. A control register and board identifier PROM are also provided.

Two output amplifier cards are available for use with the 9716/AO card. Each amplifier card has 16 channels and is pin compatible with the 9716/AO. The PAS 9416/AO amplifier provides up to +/- 35 Volts or 20 mAmps of output drive, and the PAS 9418/AO can supply up to +/- 85 Volts or 50 mAmps to the output load.
