PAS 9310/FO : Fiber Optic Bus Extender
The PAS9310/FO Fiber Optic Bus Extender converts the parallel
RTP bus into a high speed serial bus that is transmitted over fiber
optic cable. The link consists of two printed circuit cards, and
the duplex fiber optic cable that connects them. One card plugs
into an interface option chassis located near the host computer
and the RTP Bus Converter, and the second card plugs into the first
RTP controller.
Both cards contain bus transceivers that interface to the RTP parallel
data bus, a high speed encoder / transmitter, a high speed decoder
/ receiver, and a fiber optic transceiver module. All of these components
are controlled by logic contained in an Electrically Programmable
Logic Device, (EPLD). The EPLDs are different on the host and remote
ends of the link. Other than the EPLDs, all of the other components,
including the PCB are the same on both boards.
